DLPFC stands for the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, or the area in the brain that is thought to be responsible for planning and higher aspects of controlled behavior, such as executive functions such as 'monitoring' behaviour, and suppressing undesirable behaviour and motor skills. The DLPFC does not function in isolation, but is part of large-scale networks in the brain where it coordinates processes such as working memory and selective attention. Lesions of the DLPFC may be accompanied by the dysexecutive syndrome, and lead to impaired regulation of emotions, thinking and planning behavior. There have been studies in, for example, freestyle rappers in which it was shown that this part of the brain was very active. The freestylers rap things that rhyme and make sense at the same time. This is trainable by focusing on that area of the brain
